All Athletes will be given a one time fresh start at the beginning of their Freshman year.
Consequences:
1st Offense:
A. Denial of Participation
If Honest = 10 %
Otherwise = 50 %
Honest is not coming in after: Being stopped by law enforcement
: Being seen by teacher coach
: Etc -
B. Completion / enrollment maintaining successful progress towards completion of an assessment by licensed / certified counselor.
- As agreed upon by family and Van Wert City Schools.
- All cost will be the responsibility of the athlete / family
- The assessment will be completed when the Van Wert City Schools receives documentation of completion from the licensed agency.
2nd Offense:
A. Denial of Participation
If within 365 days of previous violation = 365 days denial
If more than 365 days of previous violation = 1 sport season
For involvement with illegal drugs or illegal use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco or serious violations of the law.
B. Completion / enrollment maintaining successfully progress towards completion of an assessment by licensed / certified counselor.
- As agreed upon by family and Van Wert City Schools.
- All cost will be the responsibility of the athlete / family
- The assessment will be completed when the Van Wert City Schools receives documentation of completion from the licensed agency.
C. If the violation deemed to be non-serious or involving one of the listed substances the violation MAY be reviewed with a POSSIBLE reduction in the denial period. Counseling will not be waived.
3rd Offense:
A. Denial of Participation for remainder of High School career
The most important goal of the Van Wert Athletic Program is to provide every student athlete the opportunity to grow mentally, morally, physically, and emotionally. In order to assure that the athletic program can provide these opportunities, a degree of self discipline is required of each student athlete. Self discipline involves compliance with rules and regulations concerning a student athlete's personal behavior.
