Terms and Definitions

Bytes - unit of storage; measured in kilobytes(1,024 bytes), megabytes(1,048,576 bytes), and gigabytes(1,073,741,824 bytes).

CPU - Central Processing Unit; extracts information and processes it into readable data

FSB - Front Side Bus; processor that communicates with RAM and Chipset

GHz - Gigahertz; one billion cycles per second

LAN - Local-area Network; computer network that spans a small area

LCD - Liquid Crystal Display

MHz - Megahertz; one million cycles per second

Monitor - Display screen

RAM - Random Access Memory; most common computer memory

SATA - Serial link for point-to-point devices

WAN - Wide-area Network; many LANs connected together through telephone lines and radio waves
