Meat Recall

On September 25th, 2007, one of the largest meat recalls occurred.  331,582 pounds of ground beef and hamburger were recalled as a result of a possible E. coli contamination.  The frozen meat products had been produced on June 22nd, July 12th, or July 23rd, 2007.  The meats had been distributed to food service institutions in New York, and retailers nationwide.  A positive product sample had been collected by the New York Department of Health after several reported illnesses.

E. coli is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea or dehydration.  Naturally, the very young, elderly, or those with a compromised immune system are the most susceptible to contracting the food borne illness.
