When the bell rings at 3:05 p.m. on Friday December 22nd, students will be in a hurry to get home to begin their Christmas breaks. Van Wert is off from December 22nd- January 2nd. Many students will have papers, sports, visiting family, and other activities to keep them busy, but there's still going to be a lot of downtime.

Van Wert is rumored to have nothing to do, but in fact it's located near many fun and exciting activities to keep high school kids entertained.

Below are some of the top attractions, guaranteed to kill time and not empty your wallet, all within a short drive.

 

 

 The Reservoir

The Reservoir has long been a location for Van Wert people to sled, have a snowball fight, or attempt to snowboard. The best parts are the amount of space, it's location ( just south of the hospital) and no admission price.

 

 

 Faurot Park in Lima

If the Reservoir isn't big enough or you're looking for a change Faurot Park in Lima just might be your solution. You can find it at the intersection of Collett and Northshore. It too has a vast amount of space with more options than the reservoir's straight downhill.

Ice Skating in Ft. Wayne

Headwaters Park on North Clinton Street offers unlimited amounts of skating for a low admission price. Not to mention they offer hot chocolate.

Mad River Mountain

 

Mad River Mountain is the  closest thing to a "ski resort" that Ohio has to offer. It's about an hour's drive depending on conditions. It's easy to get to, located right off of St. Rt. 33 in Zanesville. They have new trails and a tubing park for this year.

Lazer-X

  It's just a short drive to one of the top 7 Lazer Tagging arenas in America. Found at 244 Fernhill Ave., right behind the mall. You can spend hours lazer tagging, playing arcade games, or snacking on some pizza. They have specials on admission this month so be sure to check the calendar on their site.
